Rainer meets myhandicap.ch founder
Famous already as a young and successful IT entrepreneur with a promising career ahead of him, Joachim Schoss suffered a terrible motorbike accident while holidaying in South Africa. The accident cost him both his right leg and arm. Despite challenges and trauma, Joachim refused to lose his determination and love of life. Barely out of the Rehabilitation Centre, he established his own foundation myhandicap.ch a web portal for people with disabilities to date. Over the years the myhandicap.ch has grown into one of the most important portals around, full of information, exchange possibilities, news, and education and work possibilities.
It is out of this foundation that Joachim ventured to the next level. Together with the University of St. Gallen and former US President William Jefferson Clinton as spokesman, Joachim Schoss has started a new project- the Centre of Disability and Integration, which main goal is to help those people with disabilities integrate into today’s workforce. To celebrate the opening of the Centre for Disability and Integration a symposium on the topic “Commitment to Action: Providing Opportunities for People with Disabilities”, was held in which researchers discussed various areas of society with special attention given to business and how these should integrate people with disabilities into the workforce.
The entire conference was incredibly interesting and educational, especially listening to the words of both Joachim Schoss and Bill Clinton.
Nevertheless, I do have to ask myself why we still need such incredible sacrifices from individuals in this day and age, for topics which should be considered and fought for by our governments.
On this note I would like to say, thank you Joachim.
