5th British Sportscar Cup in Interlaken / Switzerland

This championship has despite the capricious weather with heavy summer rain showers a special charm, which is why it is not surprising that over 300 registered motor sportsmen started in the race. This over 5km long obstacle course and the race with almost 70 gates is one of the fastest on the yearly agenda.

I took up my position at the start with mixed emotions, it was here that gates were approached with over 160 km/h and my third gear, which is too long, would not help much. I was conscious that I would loose at least 2-3 tenths of a second at each gate. Well there are not many joyous tidings to report here, I steered atrociously uncontrolled next to a gate and landed in the green grass of the Alps in the first round. The final round had to be driven carefully, so that I could at least bring a few points home with me.

Summary: I once again doubted my driving abilities, the same mistakes as in the previous mountain races and a peculiar drivability of the car. With a hanging head I reported my lousy performance to my race mechanic Ueli Schueppach and my coach Peter. At home Ueli checked the car carefully and discovered that one of the suspension bolts stabilizing the front was broken and therefore not functioning correctly!! Now my terrible performance is easy to explain. My morals were once again restored.

I could however save myself with 66 to Beat Eggimann’s 56, who had gone into the championship lead, seeing as he had to forfeit this time.

It was a strenuous day of racing, but the good comradeship and the picturesque landscape of Interlaken allowed me, despite everything that had gone wrong, to return home content.
